Social Marketing Leads to Real Life Connections at Conferences & Events

Social Marketing Leads to Real Life Connections at Conferences & Events

Social media is an essential ingredient of internet marketing and is energizing the field to face to face marketing at trade shows and conferences.  New media technologies make it easier than ever to create meaningful relationships prior to, during, and after face to face events.

Integrating social media and trade show (face to face) marketing is a business development strategy that will prove invaluable in the coming years.  Many people are actively engaged in social marketing techniques and every few weeks new tools emerge to improve upon this process.

The Virtual Trade Show is a new social media tool that is not talked about too often.  Virtual Trade Show venues are high tech through and through, combining webcasting, text, video and group chat, blogging, virtual booth space, forums and ample opportunities for brand marketing.

Virtual Trade Shows appeal to the green market because they reduce the massive carbon footprint of all of the travel and freight involved with a traditional show.  They appeal to show goers because of the ease of access.  Keynote addresses and conference presentations can be viewed live or on demand.

Integrating the social media technologies of Virtual Trade Shows with Live Trade Shows is already taking place, and this will continue as more people make use of these techniques.  One thing is for sure, developing meaningful relationships with potential clients is getting easier than ever.

ExPrT- Exhibit Fabricators for Diamond Nexus Labs

Diamond Nexus Labs, the creators of the 2009 Miss USA crown, chose ExPrT to create a fantastic display to showcase the crown at this spring’s Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas.  The owner of Diamond Nexus Labs, Gary LaCourt wanted an “upscale” display to feature the crown as well as the flexibility of being able to re-use the display for other events in the future.

The custom display cases were faced with a mahogany laminate and then wrapped with graphics.  This allows the flexibility of using the wood-grained cases for a high-end look, or adding new graphic wraps to tie into future marketing campaigns.  The  ExpoSpaceSaver backwall hybrid display is portable and can be used separately for smaller shows and conferences. The backwall display features an aluminum support structure and graphics that can be changed to update the display.

Expert Exhibits or ExPrT Exhibits?

Posted by: Mary | Comments (0)

Today I had a client tell me it was difficult to find us because of the unusual spelling of our name.  So, I figured I should provide the story of how our name came to be…

ExPrT was originally an acronym for Exhibit Production Technologies.  ExPrT is a registered trade mark for our company.  We also like it because the prefix “Ex” is often used in the Exposition industry:  Expo, Exposition, Exhibit, Exhibition, Exhibitor, Expo Booth, ExpoDisplays, Expolinc, Expert, Experiential Exhibits, Expand, Exhibit Design, Exhibit Management… and the list goes on.  Then, there are the words with “ex” in them like Bioflex, Flex Displays, DiamondFlex and of course the X-board.  It sounds like “Ex” marks the spot in the exhibit industry!

After a time, we found that our name seemed a bit ambiguous… what are exhibit production technologies?  So, we simplified our name to ExPrT Exhibits, Graphics & Signs to more clearly describe what we do.

Some people frown on “self-proclaimed” experts.  But, our definition of an expert is one who has achieved a level of mastery in a particular area. In today’s world we need to be flexible and know a lot about many different things. Still, in order to get things done, it helps to focus in specific areas – to specialize. This specialization leads to particular experiences and a continual life-long learning that at some point leads to expertise.

Experts are also professionals who know how to help make your life easier.  Plus, they know how to follow through and get things done on time with high quality results.

An expert, to me, is also someone on the “cutting edge” of a field, open to new ideas and ready to learn more so that others can rely on their knowledge in a particular area.

The truth is, we are proud of our expertise in the exhibit industry.  Our name shows our confidence in our ability and challenges us to strive for excellence every day.

We were considering what special to offer from ExPrT a few weeks ago.  We were inspired when a member of the LinkedIn group “Greener Tradeshows” challenged us with the concept of “selling less” to be encourage sustainable business practices.  We thought about it and decided to try a new twist on an old idea – trade show rentals.

What is a green trade show?

Green trade shows fall into three different categories:

1. Trade shows for vendors selling green products.

2. Trade shows produced with a substantial effort to reduce the carbon footprint, with sustainability in mind.

3. Virtual trade shows.

There are many new businesses entering the green economy these days.  Trade shows are the traditional place to introduce new products.  There are trade shows exclusively for green products.  And, most trade shows offer a green section of the show specifically for the businesses offering eco-friendly or sustainable products.

The trade show industry as a whole is working to clean up its act by encouraging sustainable business practices, reducing waste, and encouraging new ways to network at the show so that people get the most out of face to face marketing.  Green strategies include everything from recycling bins and paper cups,  eliminating bottled water, alternative power sources, and reducing paper waste at the show.

Companies are encouraged to use light-weight trade show displays to reduce the energy costs of shipping and handling.treetop

Virtual tradeshows offer an economical alternative to the “in person” shows.  They are a greener alternative because people reduce the carbon footprint by eliminating travel and shipping costs.  Virtual tradeshows offer conferences and panels just like “in person” shows with an added benefit of taping the sessions for later viewing.  Virtual trade shows are a great alternative to traditional shows especially when people want to maintain brand recognition and keep up a presence in their industry.  There are limitations to virtual shows, however, because you lose the physical connection to the products, which can be an issue, especially when introducing new products.

At some point green trade shows will not be a novelty.  The goal is to participate in trade shows using sustainable business practices.  Trade shows will continue to evolve as people in business engage in the age-old ritual of bringing products to market.

ExPrT offers a full line of green trade show products, including greener displays, trade show signs, and banners.  Give us a call today for more information: 1-800-566-4492

I recently had the opportunity to interview Seng Weiland from the Trade Show News Network about her thoughts on the trade show industry. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in advertising and public relations from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and a Master of Arts degree in organizational leadership from DePaul University.

Can you tell us a bit about TSNN?

The Trade Show News Network (www.TSNN.com) is the world’s leading online resource for the trade show, exhibition and event industry since 1996. TSNN owns and operates the most widely-consulted event database on the Internet, containing data on more than 17,500 trade shows, exhibitions, public events and conferences. It also offers over 360,000 seminars through a strategic partnership. TSNN helps facilitate the exchange between buyers and sellers to achieve a successful venture with over 137,000 registered website users, 35,000 bi-monthly newsletter subscribers and LinkedIn groups.

What is your approach to trade shows displays?
Trade show displays are integral to creating the right first impression. They let your clients and prospects know – without saying a word – how professional, fun, serious, competent and/or knowledgeable you are.  Displays definitely set the stage, but they do not replace the sales and marketing efforts exhibitors still need to do… which is converting the traffic to leads.

At TSNN you are immersed in the trade show industry, can you share one trade show tip with us?
Like everything else, plan early to get the early bird discounts on registration, shipping, catering, etc. By planning ahead, you can end up saving your company hundreds of dollars per show.

What makes your company stand out from all of the rest?
We are one of the oldest resource websites for the trade show industry. We’re proud that we’ve been around since 1996 – surviving the bubble burst and now a depressed economy.

What is your motto?
Go big or go home!

What other resource do you recommend?
The Tradeshow Week website is a great resource for the trade show industry. It contains very informative and up-to-date articles.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I would maybe be a museum curator, especially for a natural history museum. Finding the artifacts for the museum must be so fascinating.

What inspires you creatively?
People! I am always interested in how I can meet their needs and wants.

What is your idea of success?
Doing something that makes you feel fulfilled and happy.

Thanks Seng. I certainly appreciate your thoughtful expertise at TSNN. It is always great to hear your friendly voice.

Feel free to contact Seng for more information:

New experiences:

The human brain loves novelty. Hitting that moment of insight when everything clicks and you “see the light” is a very enjoyable experience.

Want to be remembered? Positive emotions are the glue of memory. Trade show goers attach positive emotions to exciting new experiences.

Exposition centers are full of activity. Too much clutter in your booth will add to the visual fatigue of attendees. Physical barriers that separate you from the visitors can also encourage people to walk by. Instead, create excitement by trying something new:

· Keep it simple – Choose one clear and targeted message with consistent graphics.
· New experiences – Invite attendees to experience your product.
· Exciting Demonstrations – Show people the benefits of your product.
· Offer useful samples – It is true, everyone likes samples!

Connections:

Exhibiting at trade shows is important because it puts you in the right place at the right time. Attend conferences and the social gatherings throughout the show. Be attentive, some of your best networking opportunities will happen spontaneously.

Trade shows are all about making connections. Trade show attendees travel from all over the world to make connections and find solutions. A clear and targeted message, unique experiences for your clients, and genuine conversations will work together to give you trade show success.
